Management Information System (MIS) has provided information on access, retention, quality related issues, schooling scenario of children in the target group, to act as a Decision Support System (DSS) for implementation agencies, to provide support and assistance in preparation of perspective/ annual work plan & budget. The District MIS Cell is fully equipped with latest computer systems, Inter net facility, printer etc. In addition to the regular activities of the MIS Cell, the following activities are also performed- 1.School monitoring through Monthly Report on Selected Indicators (MRSI) collected by CRCC and ABRCC. 2.Connectivity of remote schools/ centers through nearest Smart School with District Mission Office 3. Collection , verification and computerization of DISE (District Information System for Education) from each and every school 4. Data hosting , analyzing and sharing regarding academic and related activities.
Under Smart School or CALIES (Computer Aided Learning in Elementary School) Programme, 20 elementary Schools have been provided with 4 numbers of computers during the year 2003 are strengthened by building capacity of teachers to use the computer and integrate the software developed and provided to them with the actual teaching-learning process in the classrooms. SSA, Assam has selected NIIT Ltd to support the Computer Aided Learning in 500 elementary schools within Assam. The party performs the following works: Repairing and Replacement of damaged works, Annual Maintenance of the Systems provided to the schools, 10-day Teacher Training for 2 Teachers from each Smart School so that the teachers can gain practical understanding of using a computer and can take classes with the help of computer, engagement of Roaming Technical Para Teacher (1 Teacher for 5 schools). Moreover, a one-day bimonthly meeting of Principal/ Head Master of the Smart School with District MIS Personnel is conducted to discuss the Technical and Academic issues. The following table shows 20 Phase I SMART SCHOOLS functioning since 2003, 25 Phase II SMART SCHOOLS & 3 Girls’ ME Schools having K-YAN, functioning since the year 2007.

THE K-YAN

Text Box: K-Yan, the latest equipment in the field of Information Communication Technology (ICT) has successfully been introduced all over India and recently in Assam too, 100 nos. of schools have been selected for the same project. Among them, 3 Upper Primary Schools of Dibrugarh District is selected.  The contents already developed in this respect will graph up the students’ learning level more suitably than the traditional methods with its wide variety of audio-visual display and that too without hampering the eye contact between teacher and student, which is an effective technique within a classroom. Contents of four subjects- Mathematics, English, General Science and Environmental Science have been introduced initially ranging from Class KG to Class XII which is in English Language. Efforts for translating the contents into local languages is under process. 
For the information seekers, the K-Yan is basically a multimedia computer integrated with a colour projector capable of projecting an image up to 300 inches in size on the blank wall. The device has an internal storage capacity of 160 GB hard disk, four USB ports for connecting external devices like scanner, printer, web camera, graphic tablet and has built-in stereo speakers with output jack for external speakers. Furthermore, A TV tuner Card comes integrated for using the device as a large format TV, a DVD or VCD player, a compact disc writer, internet surfing facilities, video conferencing and visual audio studio systems in a single compact unit.
